Where is the brightness setting in CapCut?
In the Adjust tools. On desktop, select the clip and open the Adjust tab on the right; on mobile, tap the clip and choose Adjust from the bottom menu. The web editor calls it Color adjustment.

CapCut’s Adjust tools can turn down an over-bright clip on a phone or a computer. Here are the steps, and an alternative if you don’t want to sign in.
To darken a video in CapCut on a computer, select the clip on the timeline and open the Adjust tab on the right. Lower Exposure, pull Highlights down for a bright sky, and raise Contrast a little so the result doesn’t look flat. On a phone, tap the clip, choose Adjust from the bottom menu and do the same with Brightness or Exposure and Highlights. Then Export.
CapCut’s menus change often and differ between the desktop, mobile and web versions (the web editor calls the panel Color adjustment), so the exact layout may not match. The controls named here are the ones CapCut’s own help article for overexposed video uses. If you’d rather not install anything or sign in, the tool at the top of this page does the job in your browser.
Import the video, drag it to the timeline and click (or tap) it so it is selected.
On desktop, open the Adjust tab in the panel on the right. On mobile, scroll the bottom toolbar and tap Adjust.
Reduce Exposure (or Brightness) until the picture stops glaring, then lower Highlights for skies and windows. Raise Contrast slightly to keep depth.
Click or tap Export, choose a resolution and save the video.
Most over-bright clips need three moves, in this order: bring the overall level down, rescue the brightest areas, then put contrast back. Doing it in that order stops you over-darkening faces while chasing a bright sky.
The tool on this page is an alternative when you only need to fix brightness. It runs in the browser on a phone or computer, needs no account, adds no watermark and doesn’t upload the video.
You can then import the corrected clip into CapCut for the rest of your edit. For what to do with a glaring sky, see recover blown-out highlights.

Either can darken a clip. Exposure usually looks more natural on overexposed footage because it treats the image more like real light; Brightness is fine for small changes.
You can split the clip and adjust one part, or use keyframes to change the adjustment over time. Masks can limit it to an area of the frame.
Lowering brightness also lifts the blacks towards grey. Raise Contrast, or lower Blacks if your version has it.
